Every year, hard-working Elks collect and donate thousands of hides to the Elks Veterans Leather Program. These hides are used to for 3 main purposes.

  • Some are used to make wheelchair gloves, many of which are distributed directly to veterans at annual VA Adaptive Sports Events.
  • Some leather is donated directly to VA Recreation Therapists, for use in local projects.
  • The rest of the leather collected by Elks is donated to Help Heal Veterans, which uses it to make therapeutic arts-and-craft kits for recovering veterans.

Over the past 20 years, Elks leather has been used to make 600,000 craft kits, at a total estimated value of more than $15 million.
